SRS Host Family Code of Conduct
Applies to all SRS Homestay Hosts and adult residents in the home

1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct outlines the behavioral expectations for all host families participating in the StudentRoomStay Homestay (“SRS Homestay”) Program. It applies to all hosts and adults (18+) residing in the home and is enforced in conjunction with the Host Listing Agreement, Placement Agreement, and all other applicable SRS policies.
2. General Conduct Expectations
All hosts and household members must:
- Treat students respectfully, fairly, and without discrimination.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive home environment.
- Promote positive communication and cultural exchange.
- Respect the student’s privacy and autonomy.
- Refrain from any form of harassment, bullying, or intimidation.
- Maintain clear, consistent house rules and communicate them within 72 hours of the student’s arrival.
3. Safety & Supervision
- Hosts must reside in the home at all times while a student is placed.
- Supervision requirements differ by student age and placement type (see Placement Agreement).
- No student may be left overnight without an approved adult present.
- New adult residents or overnight guests must be disclosed to SRS and may require background checks.
- Hosts must immediately report any incident or allegation involving abuse, neglect, or safety concerns.
4. Alcohol, Drugs, and Smoking
- Hosts must prevent access to alcohol, tobacco, and controlled substances.
- Students under 21 may not possess, consume, or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Hosts may not offer or condone underage use of these substances.
5. Financial Boundaries
- Hosts may not lend money to, borrow money from, or enter into any financial agreement with students or their families.
- Hosts must not collect any fees or payments directly from students.
- All financial matters must go through SRS.
6. Interpersonal Boundaries
- Hosts must maintain appropriate relationships with students at all times.
- Romantic or sexually suggestive behavior, conversations, or materials are strictly prohibited.
- Students must not be left alone behind closed doors with adults or peers of the opposite sex.
- Personal boundaries should always be respected — emotionally, physically, and culturally.
7. Daily Life & Inclusion
- Include students in family meals and appropriate household activities.
- Assist students in navigating local transportation, school routines, and community norms.
- Provide reasonable support with school and emotional adjustment.
- Monitor and guide students in developing healthy routines.
8. Household Conditions
- Hosts must maintain a clean, safe, and properly furnished home.
- The student must have a private bedroom with a window, bed, desk, and sufficient storage.
- Provide access to high-speed internet, laundry, kitchen, and common areas.
- All household appliances and safety systems (e.g., smoke detectors) must be functional.
9. Communication & Reporting
- Respond to all SRS communication within 24 hours.
- Complete monthly check-ins and any required forms accurately and on time.
- Proactively report concerns about the student’s wellbeing, academic engagement, or household changes.
10. Compliance
Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in:
- Immediate student removal
- Suspension or termination from the SRS Host Network
- Forfeiture of stipend payments
- Referral to local authorities in cases involving safety or legal violations

By signing your Host Agreement and accepting any student placement, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct in full.
