SRS Standards of Student Care

Applies to all Hosts and Adults (18+) in the Home

Effective Date: August 6, 2025

Last Updated: August 6, 2025

1. Purpose

This policy establishes the behavioral and safety standards that all individuals in an SRS Homestay household must follow to protect the rights, dignity, and welfare of students — especially minors. It is required in addition to the Host Family Code of Conduct and Host Agreement.

2. General Principles

All members of the SRS Homestay community must:

  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment for students
  • Understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate interactions
  • Follow all local laws, SRS policies, and mandatory reporting requirements
  • Report any suspected abuse or misconduct to SRS immediately

3. Appropriate Behavior

Examples of expected behavior include:

  • Using positive reinforcement, encouragement, and respectful language
  • Being present and visible when students are in common areas
  • Keeping doors open when meeting with students in private spaces
  • Modeling responsible conduct and cultural sensitivity
  • Respecting student privacy while maintaining age-appropriate supervision

4. Inappropriate Behavior

The following are strictly prohibited and grounds for immediate removal from the SRS Homestay program:

  • Engaging in or facilitating sexual contact, romantic advances, or sexually suggestive conversations
  • Allowing or encouraging access to pornography, sexually explicit materials, or inappropriate media
  • Yelling, threatening, intimidating, or using physical force with students
  • Making discriminatory or derogatory comments based on race, religion, gender, sexuality, or background
  • Sharing a bed or sleeping area with a student
  • Being alone in a bathroom with a student, unless absolutely necessary in a medical emergency
  • Discussing a student’s personal matters (medical, emotional, academic) with third parties without consent

5. Boundaries with Students

  • Maintain clear and age-appropriate boundaries at all times
  • Avoid excessive familiarity or dependence (emotional or otherwise)
  • Monitor student relationships and ensure no minors are isolated with others behind closed doors
  • Do not share or request personal social media accounts or private contact info from minors
  • Never use gifts, money, or favors to influence a student’s behavior or relationship

6. Reporting & Accountability

  • All hosts and household members must report any suspicion of abuse, misconduct, or inappropriate behavior to SRS immediately
  • Failure to report is a violation of this policy and may lead to termination or legal consequences
  • SRS may conduct investigations or refer concerns to law enforcement when warranted

7. Acknowledgement

By signing a Host Agreement or residing in an SRS Homestay household, you agree to uphold these Standards of Student Care. Violations of this policy may result in immediate removal from the program and permanent ineligibility to host.
